Five festive ways to serve cashews

From roasted bowls to thoughtful gift boxes, simple ideas that make celebrations feel special.

Cashews have always had a place at celebrations. They are crunchy, rich and a little bit luxurious, and they work in everything from a welcome snack to a final sweet. If you are planning a festival, a wedding function or a family get-together, here are five simple ways to bring cashews to the table.

1. Lightly roasted, lightly spiced bowls

This is the easiest welcome snack you can make. Warm whole cashews in a dry pan over low heat for a few minutes, stirring often, until they turn a pale golden colour and smell nutty. Take them off the heat, then toss with a pinch of salt and, if you like, a little black pepper, chaat masala or crushed curry leaves fried in a few drops of ghee. Let them cool completely before serving so they stay crisp.

Tip: Cashews continue to colour after leaving the pan, so stop a little earlier than you think you need to.

2. Dry-fruit gift boxes

A box of dry fruits is one of the most welcome gifts at any festival. Whole cashews give the box its look, so choose full cashews of even size and colour, then pair them with almonds, raisins, pistachios or dates. Line a small box with butter paper, arrange the fruits in neat sections and finish with a ribbon or a handwritten card. For a larger group, such as colleagues or customers, a simple sealed pouch of 250g looks just as thoughtful.

3. Cashew sweets for the thali

Cashew-based sweets are festive classics for good reason. Kaju katli, cashew barfi, cashew laddus and cashew halwa all rely on cashew that has been finely ground or chopped, which makes broken cashews an ideal and economical choice. Keep a few whole cashews aside to press on top of each piece for a proper celebratory finish.

4. Cashews in festive rice dishes

Ghee-roasted cashews are the secret behind many celebratory dishes: pulao, biryani, ven pongal, sweet pongal, kesari bath and payasam. Fry them in ghee until golden and add them at the very end, just before serving, so they stay crunchy. A small handful transforms an ordinary dish into a festive one.

5. A cashew and fruit platter

For a lighter option, build a platter around fresh seasonal fruit, a few dates and a generous scatter of whole cashews. Add a small bowl of honey or jaggery syrup for dipping. It looks beautiful, takes ten minutes to assemble and suits guests who prefer something less sweet.

Planning ahead

Festival weeks are busy for everyone, and popular pack sizes can sell out. If you are buying cashews for gifting, for a function or for your shop, plan a couple of weeks ahead. Decide how much you need, keep cashews in airtight containers once opened, and keep roasted cashews separate from raw ones so each stays fresh. And if you need larger quantities for a big celebration or for your business, you can send us an enquiry and we will help you choose the right pack size.

Quick takeaways

  • Use whole cashews for anything guests will see
  • Roast gently on low heat and cool fully before storing
